The European squid, also called the common squid, is a large squid belonging to the family Loliginidae, occurring abundantly in coastal waters from the North Sea to at least the west coast of Africa. It lives from sea level to depths of 500 meters, has a mantle up to 40 centimeters long, and is extensively exploited by commercial fisheries.
