Riccia fluitans, the floating crystalwort, is an aquatic floating plant of the liverwort genus Riccia, popular among aquarists as a retreat for young fish fry and used in tanks that house live-bearing fish. It grows quickly at the water surface, forming dense bright green mats under strong light, and can also attach itself to submerged logs and rocks. It is generally not compatible with duckweed, which covers the water surface rapidly and crowds it out, and it is easily overtaken by hair algae. Its species name, fluitans, is Latin for floating.
