Fork moss is the common name for Dicranum, a genus of mosses also called wind-blown moss, which forms in densely packed clumps. Its stems may fork but do not branch, and upright stems typically grow singly while packed closely together with others; the genus is distributed globally and in North America is commonly found in jack pine or red pine stands.
