Drosophila melanogaster, commonly known as the fruit fly or lesser fruit fly, and also called the vinegar fly, pomace fly or banana fly, is a small fly in the family Drosophilidae. It is attracted to rotting fruit and fermenting beverages, and is commonly found in orchards, kitchens and pubs.
