Funaria

Funaria hygrometrica, known as bonfire moss or common cord-moss, is a small, delicate moss that grows on shady, moist soil, reaching only about half an inch in height with soft green, upright stems, multicellular branched rhizoids and spirally arranged leaves with a distinct midrib. It favors shady soil, damp walls and rocky crevices, and has even been found growing in artificially lit caves, where its internodes lengthen and its leaves grow longer and narrower in response to the altered light. The species tolerates unusually harsh conditions, including water containing 90 percent heavy water.
