The German cockroach, colloquially known as the croton bug, is a small cockroach typically 1.1 to 1.6 centimetres long, tan to almost black with two dark parallel streaks running from behind the head to the base of the wings. Though it has wings it can barely fly, gliding only when disturbed, and despite being closely related to and easily confused with the Asian cockroach, it is probably the most widely troublesome of the relatively few cockroach species considered domestic pests.
