Ghost Crab, formally the subfamily Ocypodinae, is a group of common shore crabs found in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, inhabiting deep burrows in the intertidal zone as generalist scavengers and predators of small animals. Their name comes from their nocturnal habits and generally pale coloration, though they are also sometimes called sand crabs, a name that also refers to unrelated crabs outside the subfamily.
