Greater prairie-chicken

The greater prairie-chicken, also called the pinnated grouse or boomer, is a large bird in the grouse family native to North America. Once abundant, it has become extremely rare or has disappeared across much of its former range due to habitat loss, natural disasters and overhunting, and conservation measures are now underway to sustain the small populations that remain. The species is best known for its mating display, called booming.
