Homarus Americanus

Homarus americanus, the American lobster, is a species of lobster in the family Nephropidae found on the Atlantic coast of North America, chiefly from Labrador to New Jersey, and also called the Atlantic, Canadian, northern, or Maine lobster. It inhabits cold, shallow Atlantic waters from Labrador to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and can reach 64 centimeters in body length and over 20 kilograms in mass, making it the heaviest crustacean in the world; it is usually bluish green to brown with red spines, and differs from its close relative the European lobster in the spines on the underside of its rostrum and the red tips of its claw spines. It supports a major commercial fishery, harvested chiefly from Maine and Canada's Atlantic provinces using lobster traps.
