Humboldt squid, Dosidicus gigas, is a large, predatory squid of the family Ommastrephidae living in the eastern Pacific Ocean, the only known species of its genus. Also called the jumbo squid, jumbo flying squid or red devil, it is known for forming large shoals, hunting cooperatively, and for aggressive behavior toward prey, and it can flash red and white coloration across its body rapidly enough to communicate with other squid in its shoal.
