Nosestripe Clownfish

Fish

The nosestripe clownfish (Amphiprion akallopisos), also called the skunk clownfish, inhabits shallow inshore reefs of the Indian Ocean from Java and Sumatra to Madagascar and the Seychelles, at depths down to about 15 meters. It grows to roughly 11 centimeters and is light orange to pink orange with a single narrow white stripe running from the mouth to the base of the tail, a stripe that stops short of the upper lip and distinguishes it from the similar orange skunk clownfish. It associates chiefly with the magnificent sea anemone and the giant carpet anemone, and like other anemonefish it is a protandrous hermaphrodite in which the largest individual in a group becomes the breeding female. The IUCN lists it as Least Concern, though it is also collected for the aquarium trade.
