The Japanese flying squid, also called the Japanese common squid or Pacific flying squid, is a squid of the family Ommastrephidae. It lives in the northern Pacific Ocean around Japan, along the entire coast of China up to Russia, and spreads across the Bering Strait east toward the southern coast of Alaska and Canada, tending also to cluster around the central region of Vietnam.
