Japanese larch, Larix kaempferi, is a deciduous conifer of the family Pinaceae native to the mountains of central Honshu, Japan, one of the relatively few conifers that sheds its needles each autumn. It is widely planted outside its native range for timber and reforestation, valued for its fast growth and resistance to some pests that affect other larches, and its needles turn a striking gold before falling in autumn.
