Lesser black-backed gull

The lesser black-backed gull is a large gull that breeds along the Atlantic and Arctic coasts of Europe. It is migratory, wintering from the British Isles south to West Africa, and has increased dramatically in North America in recent decades, especially along the east coast, after formerly appearing there only as a rare winter visitor. Despite this North American increase there is concern about decline in parts of its original range: the species is on the UK's Amber conservation list because the UK holds roughly forty percent of the European population, more than half of it concentrated at fewer than ten breeding sites.
