Levant Sparrowhawk

The Levant sparrowhawk is a small bird of prey, 32 to 38 centimeters long with a 65 to 75 centimeter wingspan, that breeds in forests from Greece and the Balkans east to southern Russia. Males show blue grey plumage above with reddish barring below, while females are slate grey, and both have yellowish legs and cere. It is highly migratory, wintering from Egypt to southwestern Iran, and unlike the more widespread Eurasian sparrowhawk it migrates in large flocks, with over 90 percent of the international population passing through Jordan. The IUCN lists it as Least Concern given its vast range and stable population, though wind farm development and hunting are noted concerns.
