The blind shark, Brachaelurus waddi, is one of two carpet shark species in the family Brachaeluridae, found along the coast of eastern Australia from Queensland to New South Wales. It is a nocturnal, bottom-dwelling shark that inhabits rocky areas and seagrass beds from the intertidal zone down to about 140 meters, often occupying tide pools and able to survive extended periods out of water. It reaches 62 to 66 centimeters at maturity, with a stocky grayish brown body marked with white flecks and darker bands that fade with age, a wide flattened head, small eyes, and long barbels. It feeds on small invertebrates and bony fish, bears live young without a placenta in litters of 7 to 8 pups in summer, and is of no commercial fishing value, remaining abundant and assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
