Lyell's Bristle-moss

Lyell's bristle-moss, Orthotrichum lyellii, is a moss of the family Orthotrichaceae forming loose green and yellow tufts up to four centimeters tall, with sharply pointed leaves dusted along their surface by distinctive brown asexual propagules that let the plant spread without spores. It grows epiphytically on the bark of deciduous trees such as maple and oak in coastal temperate rainforest, ranging along the Pacific coast of North America from southeastern Alaska to California and separately across Europe from the United Kingdom to the Mediterranean.
