Mediterranean Fruit Fly

Ceratitis capitata, commonly known as the Mediterranean fruit fly or medfly, is a yellow-and-brown fly native to sub-Saharan Africa with no close relatives in the Western Hemisphere. It is considered one of the world's most destructive fruit pests, and occasional infestations in California, Florida and Texas have required extensive eradication efforts to prevent it from establishing itself in the United States.
