The northern flicker, or common flicker (Colaptes auratus), is a medium-sized woodpecker found across most of North America, parts of Central America, Cuba and the Cayman Islands, and is one of the few woodpecker species that migrates. It has more than 100 recorded common names, including yellowhammer, clape and gaffer woodpecker, many derived from attempts to imitate its calls. It is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
