Prunus maackii, commonly called the Manchurian cherry or Amur chokecherry, is a species of cherry tree native to Korea, both banks of the Amur River in Manchuria in northeastern China, and Amur Oblast and Primorsky Krai in southeastern Russia. It is a deciduous tree growing 4 to 10 meters tall, notable for smooth, glossy bronze-yellow bark on young trees that becomes fissured and darkens with age, alternate finely serrated leaves 4 to 8 centimeters long, and white flowers borne on erect spikes in mid spring followed by small drupes that ripen from green to dark purple or black. It was formerly classified in Prunus subgenus Padus but morphological and molecular studies now place it in subgenus Cerasus, and it is cultivated as an ornamental tree in northern Europe and North America for its decorative bark.
