Rhinoceros beetles, or Dynastinae, are a subfamily of the scarab beetle family Scarabaeidae, named for their rhinoceros-like horns; more than 1,500 species across 225 genera are known. Other common names, some applied to particular groups within the subfamily, include Hercules beetles, unicorn beetles and horn beetles, and well-known members include the Atlas beetle, the common rhinoceros beetle, the elephant beetle, the European rhinoceros beetle, the Hercules beetle, the Japanese rhinoceros beetle and the ox beetle.
