Rimu, Dacrydium cupressinum, is a conifer of the family Podocarpaceae endemic to New Zealand, recognizable by its drooping, weeping branchlets covered in small scale-like leaves. Historically one of the country's most important native timber trees, its reddish-brown wood was widely used in furniture and house construction through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries before logging restrictions were introduced to protect remaining old-growth stands.
