Rule's araucaria is a conifer in the family Araucariaceae, growing to about 30 meters with long, slender branches symmetrically arranged around the trunk, giving mature trees a dome shaped, chandelier like appearance. It is endemic to New Caledonia, restricted almost entirely to dry, nickel rich serpentine soils at elevations up to 1,000 meters. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Endangered, with nickel mining identified as the major cause of its fragmented and scattered population decline.
