Sarcoscypha coccinea, commonly known as the scarlet elf cup or scarlet elf cap, is a species of fungus in the family Sarcoscyphaceae and the type species of the genus Sarcoscypha. Known by many names since its first appearance in the scientific literature in 1772, it is recognized by the brilliant red interior of its cup-shaped fruiting body, which contrasts with a lighter-colored exterior, and it has often been confused with several similar-looking Sarcoscypha species due to overlapping distributions and appearance.
