Schmid araucaria is a conifer in the family Araucariaceae, growing as a medium to large tree up to 30 meters tall. It is endemic to New Caledonia, with its primary population confined to the summit and upper slopes of Mont Panie in the northeast of Grande Terre. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Vulnerable, warning that its single remaining population, though inside a protected national park, could be wiped out entirely by a chance event such as a fungal disease outbreak.
