Slender Mouse-tail Moss is a true moss that grows abundantly on both rocks and trees. It is native to western and eastern North America and to parts of western Europe. It grows preferentially on flowering trees rather than on conifers, because the way flowering trees take up water creates a more consistently moist surface for the moss, and because many flowering tree species are less acidic than conifers.
