Spotted flycatcher

The spotted flycatcher is a small, understated passerine of the Old World flycatcher family, breeding across most of Europe and the Palearctic east to Siberia and wintering in Africa and southwestern Asia; the species is declining across parts of its range. It has long wings and tail, grey brown upperparts and whitish underparts, with streaking on the crown and breast that gives the bird its name, short black legs and a black bill with the broad, pointed shape typical of aerial insect hunters. Juveniles are browner than adults and show spots rather than streaks on their upperparts.
