Spotted sandgrouse

The spotted sandgrouse is a species of ground-dwelling bird in the family Pteroclidae, found in arid regions of northern and eastern Africa and across the Middle East and parts of Asia as far east as northwest India. A gregarious, diurnal bird, it forages in small flocks for seed and other plant matter on the ground and flies once a day to a waterhole, and in the breeding season pairs nest apart from one another with eggs laid in a depression on stony ground; chicks leave the nest soon after hatching and are given water by the male, who saturates his belly feathers at the waterhole. It is listed as Least Concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
