Staurozoa is a class of Medusozoa with one living order, Stauromedusae, comprising about 50 known species; a fossil group called Conulariida has been proposed as a second, extinct order, though this remains speculative. Staurozoans are small marine animals, usually attached to seaweed, rocks or gravel, with an antitropical distribution concentrated in boreal or polar, near-shore, shallow waters, mostly in the Northern Hemisphere; few live in warmer tropical or subtropical waters. Staurozoa remains one of the least studied groups within Cnidaria.
