Star Moss, also known as twisted moss, is a moss species in the family Pottiaceae with a cosmopolitan distribution spanning North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Australia. It tolerates an unusually wide range of climates, growing in tundra, coniferous forest, grassland and sagebrush steppe from the Arctic to arid desert regions, with its common name twisted moss reflecting the distinctive twisted appearance its leaves take on when dry.
