Pentatomidae, generally called shield bugs or stink bugs, is a family of insects in the order Hemiptera and the largest family within the superfamily Pentatomoidea, containing around 900 genera and over 4,700 species. Like other hemipterans, pentatomids have piercing, sucking mouthparts, and most are plant feeders, including several species that are severe agricultural pests, though some, particularly in the subfamily Asopinae, are predatory and considered beneficial.
