Stonewall Rim Lichen

The stonewall rim lichen, Lecanora muralis, is a waxy looking, pale yellowish green crustose lichen that grows in rosette patterns with yellowish tan fruiting bodies at its center. It grows worldwide on many kinds of rock, including granite, sandstone and limestone, and occasionally on bark, and is especially common in California and the Sonoran Desert, where it may be the most frequently seen Lecanora species on rock surfaces. Its considerable variability has led some researchers to suspect it is really a complex of several distinct species.
