Swan's-neck Thyme-moss

Swan's-neck thyme-moss, Mnium hornum, is a moss of the family Mniaceae with upright stems two to four centimeters tall bearing toothed leaves and capsules whose lid narrows abruptly to a short beak, carried on a long, curving stalk that gives the plant its common name. Native to Europe and eastern North America, it is a common moss of damp, acidic woodland such as oak-birch, beech and pine forest, growing on bare ground, fallen logs, rocks, tree bases and stream margins.
