Tawny owl

The tawny owl, also called the brown owl, is a stocky, medium-sized owl in the family Strigidae. It is commonly found in woodlands across Europe and western Siberia, has seven recognized subspecies, and shows pale underparts streaked with dark markings and an upper body that may be brown or grey. It typically nests in a tree hole to protect its eggs and young from predators, is non-migratory and highly territorial, and a young bird that cannot find a vacant territory of its own will often starve.
