Coryphaenidae is the family of the dolphinfishes, and Coryphaena is currently the only known genus in it. Its marine ray-finned fishes have compressed heads and a single dorsal fin that runs the entire length of the body. Dolphinfish are aggressive predators that prey on oceanic forage fishes while serving as a primary food source for many larger pelagic predators, and they can reach about 40 kilograms and are among the fastest-growing fish in the ocean. Despite the name they are unrelated to dolphins, and commercially their meat is often labeled with its Hawaiian name mahi-mahi to reduce confusion.
