The Argentine angelshark, Squatina argentina, is a species of angelshark in the family Squatinidae, order Squatiniformes. It is purplish brown with scattered dark brown spots, lacking any white, mostly arranged in circular groups around a central spot, and has simple spatulate nasal barbels and enlarged thorns on its snout; large broad pectoral fins with a convex leading edge give it a distinct shoulder shape, and mature individuals measure roughly 100 to 120 centimeters, with a maximum recorded length of 138 centimeters and a possible record of 170 centimeters. It lives in the southwestern Atlantic from southern Brazil to Patagonia, on the continental shelf and upper slope at depths of 50 to 320 meters, most commonly 100 to 400 meters. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Critically Endangered, noting very low resilience and a minimum population doubling time of more than 14 years.
