Victoria Crowned Pigeon

The Victoria crowned pigeon is a large, ground-dwelling pigeon native to the lowland and swamp forests of New Guinea, named for its striking blue-grey plumage and an elaborate lace-like crest of feathers on its head. It is one of the largest living pigeons, roughly the size of a turkey, and is known for its deep, booming call. It feeds mainly on fallen fruit, seeds and invertebrates on the forest floor, and its population has declined due to hunting and habitat loss.
