Water boatmen are insects of the family Corixidae, among the most common water bugs in ponds, lakes and slow streams worldwide. Unlike the similar-looking backswimmer, they swim right side up, and most species feed on algae, plant material and small invertebrates rather than acting as predators. Many species can produce sound by rubbing body parts together, a behavior called stridulation, and one species has been recorded as among the loudest animals relative to its body size ever measured.
