Weevils are beetles belonging to the superfamily Curculionoidea, known for their very long snouts. They are typically small, generally less than six millimeters long, and herbivorous, with about 97,000 known species distributed across several families; most weevil species belong to the family Curculionidae, the true weevils. Many weevils are serious agricultural pests that damage stored grains, cotton and other cultivated plants, though some species have been used beneficially for the biological control of invasive vegetation.
