The Cook pine, also called the coral reef araucaria, is a conifer species in the family Araucariaceae endemic to New Caledonia. Named after Captain James Cook by the botanist Johann Reinhold Forster, it grows into a narrowly conical, spire-like shape with horizontal branches arranged in whorls, reaching up to 60 meters tall in its native habitat, with leaves that shift from needle-like when young to triangular and scale-like at maturity. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Least Concern, and it is widely cultivated as an ornamental tree in warm regions worldwide, including Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, and Southern California.
