Tomato Clownfish

Fish

The tomato clownfish (Amphiprion frenatus) is found in the western Pacific from the Ryukyu Islands of Japan south through the South China Sea to Malaysia and Indonesia. It reaches up to 14 centimeters and shows strong differences between the sexes, with females mostly blackish on the sides and males smaller and uniformly bright orange red, all marked with a white head bar outlined in black; juveniles are darker red with two or three white bands that fade with age. It typically associates with the bubble tip anemone or the sebae anemone, though it can survive without a host, and like other anemonefish it develops first as a male and later matures into a female. The IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
