Wood sandpiper

The wood sandpiper, Tringa glareola, is a small wader in the sandpiper family Scolopacidae and the smallest species in the genus Tringa. It breeds across subarctic wetlands from the Scottish Highlands eastward through Eurasia and migrates to winter in Africa, South Asia, particularly India, and Australia, with occasional records as far as the Hawaiian Islands and a regular presence in Micronesia between October and May. Unlike many related waders it favors freshwater and wetland habitats rather than coastal shores, and it can be told apart by its shorter, finer bill, brown back, and longer yellowish legs, with breeding plumage of subdued light brown mottled darker above and diffuse brownish spotting on the breast and neck; its closest relative is the common redshank. It maintains a stable, healthy global population and is listed as Least Concern.
