Woolly Fringe-moss

Woolly fringe-moss, Racomitrium lanuginosum, also known as hoary rock-moss, is a widespread species of moss found on exposed rocky surfaces and boulder fields across montane and arctic tundra of the Northern Hemisphere, favoring acidic rock where it forms extensive, greyish mats. Each leaf ends in a toothed, colorless hair-point that gives established mats their characteristic woolly, frosted appearance and lends the species its common names.
