Yellow Crazy Ant

The yellow crazy ant, also called the long-legged ant or Maldive ant, is thought to be native to Asia and has been accidentally introduced across the world's tropics, taking its common name from its erratic movements when disturbed. Its unusually long legs and antennae make it one of the largest invasive ant species, and like other so-called tramp ants it establishes and dominates new habitats through aggression toward rival ant species, low aggression within its own colonies and efficient recruitment; it appears on the IUCN's list of the hundred worst invasive species and has formed supercolonies as far apart as Hawaii, the Seychelles and Christmas Island.
