Zebrafish is a species of danionin fish in the genus Danio, native to South Asia. A popular, hardy aquarium fish often sold under the trade name zebra danio, it is also extensively used as a vertebrate model organism in scientific research, particularly developmental biology, but also gene function, oncology, teratology and drug development, owing to its scalability from high numbers of offspring, ease of drug delivery through water into the gills, and notable regenerative abilities.
