The centipedes: elongated, segmented arthropods with exactly one pair of legs per body segment and a pair of venom claws (forcipules) modified from the first pair of legs, used to subdue prey. Chilopoda are fast-moving predators, unlike the plant-detritus-eating millipedes they are often confused with.
