Myxini is the taxonomic class containing the hagfish, an order of eel shaped jawless fish named Myxiniformes. Hagfish are the only known living animals that have a skull but no vertebral column, though they do carry rudimentary vertebrae. They live as marine predators and scavengers, and defend themselves against larger predators by releasing large amounts of slime from mucous glands in their skin.
