Pterobranchia is a class of small, worm shaped hemichordate animals, called pterobranchs, that live in secreted tubes on the ocean floor and feed by filtering plankton from the water with cilia attached to their tentacles. About twenty five living species are known across three genera, Rhabdopleura, Cephalodiscus, and Atubaria, alongside several hundred extinct genera dating back as far as the Cambrian period.
