Cold-blooded (ectothermic) vertebrates covered in scales, that typically lay leathery or hard-shelled eggs on land. Reptilia includes lizards, snakes, turtles and crocodilians, and, in the cladistic classification many biologists now use, is considered to include birds as well, though this atlas follows the traditional rank-based split for readability.
