Spirochaetia is a class of bacteria within the phylum Spirochaetota, whose members, commonly called spirochaetes or spirochetes, are distinctive diderm (double membrane) Gram-negative bacteria with long, helically coiled cells. Spirochaetes are chemoheterotrophic, ranging from about 3 to 500 micrometers in length and roughly 0.09 to at least 3 micrometers in diameter.
